The RILEY Orton foundation

Over 2025 and 2026, we committed to supporting the Riley Orton Foundation, an incredible community organisation working with girls in rural Kenya to provide STEM education and high school scholarships for vulnerable girls.

In 2025, ROF made significant strides in expanding access to STEM education, mentorship, and life skills for rural learners. So far they have reached more than 700 students at their STEM camps and 1,800 students in life skills education.

About the Riley Orton Foundation

Riley Orton Foundation (ROF) is a registered charity that works with schools and community organisations in Kisumu, Siaya, and Kakamega counties in western Kenya. It works to provide educational opportunities for marginalised girls and communities in Kenya, providing them with the agency to realise their full potential. The ROF team have:

launched and run the Akili School, a public primary school for rural kids
constructed a literacy garden, latrines and other essential school infrastructure
transformed the school into the Akili STEMarts Academy, a specialist learning centre enabling rural girls to discover and pursue science and technology
built a scholarship program to support girls to continue education beyond primary school (girls often drop out at this point to be married off or work)
distributed thousands of school materials including school uniforms, menstrual pads, shoes and books to kids from impoverished backgrounds.

ROF is a trusted long term partner of the Sunflower Foundation, and the beneficiary of six previous Sunflower grants to fund school infrastructure and garden construction, teaching salaries, entrepreneurship training, school camps and scholarship provision.

ROF’s small, passionate team is led by David Omondi, a grassroots leader with a wealth of experience in education technology and entrepreneurship as well as project planning and management. Visit the ROF website to learn more about David and the team.
